Every studio study begins with raw materials harvested from local Barberton soil, processed through historical studio techniques.
Earth Pigment Studio
Hand-Pulled Papermaking
Botanical Dyes & Ink
Grind natural stone, shale, and clay into lightfast pigments for egg tempera, oil mediums, and handmade watercolor cakes.
Form archival sheets from harvested plant fibers using traditional wooden molds, deckles, and heavy felt pressing techniques.
Extract permanent colorants from oak galls, walnut husks, and madders to formulate drawing inks and textile dye baths.

Bound to the Land
Our lineage rests on complete self-reliance in the studio. Rather than purchasing synthetic supplies, students master the tactile chemistry of every pigment, binder, and surface.
Master craftspeople guide each cohort through patient seasonal harvests and time-tested recipe manuscripts preserved in the Barberton academy archive.
